Structure – Function… Diabetes (Type II*). First, I need to be clear that Diabetes is a medical condition and essential oils cannot cure it. So with Diabetes we’d be looking for ways to support our body’s organs and blood sugar.
First, I have to be blunt about a couple of things. Diabetes is situational. 99.9% of the time it is caused by eating habits, diet, lack of exercise and is compounded by medications and genetics. Any doctor will tell you that Diabetes can be managed entirely with diet, exercise and lifestyle changes. IF it is caught early enough. If it isn’t then medication will be required, however, with diet, exercise and lifestyle changes and under the care and supervision of a licensed health care professional those medications can be decreased and sometimes even eliminated over time. Ouch, I know, painfully blunt.
If you are still reading… one of my biggest pet peeves is the term ‘pre-diabetic’. This is not a medical condition. All it means is that you ARE diabetic but don’t need medication… YET. This is the perfect time to make those adjustments so it doesn’t progress. Many people have been in this category and have taken steps so that they don’t ever have to step out of this ‘category’. It is no end of frustration that doctors don’t take a stronger stance and get in people’s face and let them know the truth… this is a turning point. Make chances or be at risk for losing feeling in their feet, continual sores, staph infections that won’t heal, obesity, vision issues, and a 25% risk of kidney failure. Not to mention that Diabetes is best friends with bad cholesterol and cardiovascular issues.
So what to do?
Diet:
My recommendation is to make serious diet adjustments. Eliminate anything white. Go only 100% whole grain. Eliminate refined sugars. Eliminate processed foods. Eliminate artificial sweeteners. Eliminate dairy. Eliminate high sugar fruits. Increase vegetables. Choose leaner proteins. Reduce the amount of daily carbs. Follow the diabetic diet guidelines suggested by the Mayo Clinic or an approved diabetic diet. Consider reducing or eliminating wheat and soy. Before you say… what will I eat? Check out Paleo – I eat a stricter diet than above and I’m happy and enjoy great meals. Allow yourself a cheat meal/dessert a week. If you have a craving, have a small amount instead of setting yourself for binging. Cheat? Just let it go and keep trying. Don’t give into compounding the problem by making it a cheat day or week.
Excercise:
Exercise 20 minutes a day 5 days a week for better health. To lose weight increase it to 40 minutes a day. If you are overweight and/or have mobility issues make it low impact exercise such as swimming or walking. If you chose Zumba or other exercise programs talk with the instructor for ways to make it low impact and move up gradually.
Lifestyle:
Go outside. Choose more activities that require that you are moving. Limit activities like sitting at a desk, computer, watching TV, etc. Make these changes slowly and be aware that pushing too hard and too fast can make you miserable which increases the risk that you’ll quit. Take baby steps. Plus… make sure to drink plenty of water.
Oils/Supplements Etc.:
This is a condition that can really stress our body out. It effects many body systems. Products that can really help are to make sure our body has all the proper nutrition, minerals and supplements. I recommend Lifelong Vitality Supplements daily. It will help with the stress on the body, the Omegas help support the cardiovascular, cognitive and organs. Most people find that they can handle stress much better on Lifelong Vitality and it is energizing.
I also recommend Slim & Sassy. My preference is 3 gel caps – one before each meal (yes you must have 3 meals a day). This helps promote healthy metabolic function, helps manage cravings and appetite. It helps support healthy blood sugar levels when you are in normal range, helps support kidney health and a healthy immune system.
1 PB Assist probiotic a day is very helpful in supporting a healthy immune system. This is really important when the body is stressed.
I also recommend taking DDR Prime gel caps or putting a couple drops on the bottom of your feet daily. DDR Prime supports healthy cellular integrity which is very important.
Again – I can’t stress enough, this is an approach to support body systems for better health.
Questions? Just let me know!
(Type 1 should really be called Pancreas failure not Diabetes. There is no cure and medication is mandatory. )
